DIY window blinds

Good afternoon dear friends. Today I will be doing window blinds from wallpaper. The fact is that in my room there are three windows and all face the sunny side. Since we live in the country in the summer, it is not possible to go to the city and buy blinds, which, incidentally, are not very cheap, I decided to make a budget option.

The difficulty was that the windows were 62 cm wide and the width of our wallpapers was only 52 cm. Therefore, to beautifully add the width, we have to take another roll of wallpaper, but in the same color scheme. Since the main wallpaper is plain, we purchased a roll with a vertical pattern. By the way, if you pick up wallpapers with a discreet pattern in golden or silver tones, then from the street they will look like fabric.

Also for the manufacture of blinds, we need a ruler, rope and clamps. These are the things that can be seen on some models of jackets. They are used to fix the hood or somewhere around the waist. We also need an awl, scissors, double-sided tape for gluing on the window and PVA glue.

The length of the main strip of wallpaper must be taken in such a way that it exceeds the height of the window by another half. This is necessary if you want to completely close the window from the sun, you should have very beautiful folds. After two additional strips are glued on both sides of the canvas, we begin to make an accordion. For this purpose I use an ordinary wooden ruler. That's why we chose paper wallpapers, they hold the accordion very well, unlike modern vinyl samples.

When we harmoniously folded the entire length of the wallpaper, we need to fold them in half. Thus we find the middle of our blinds, and in this place we make a hole with an awl.

Now we need a rope. If it is soft and thin, then it is necessary to use a gypsy needle for ease of installation. The length of the rope should be greater than the height of the window by 30 centimeters. Then, with the help of a needle, we thread our rope through the clamp in the pressed position. I specifically use a two-hole retainer to better fix the rope.

Now we are using the same needle to thread the rope up and down through our accordion. After that we tie a knot on the rope, maybe even a few, and wind the end behind the upper accordion fold. Here we need to securely fix it with ordinary tape, and stick a strip of double-sided tape over the top of the accordion. The accordion will stick on this side at the top of the window.

The lower part will be folded in a fan and keep its shape with a latch. It will also serve as a regulator of the height of the blinds on the window.

After installing our design in place, we check its performance. If we need more light, we can understand the latch to the top.

If we do not need light, we press the latch and lower the blinds to the state that we need.

We can also completely close the window. We lower the clamp to the very end and observe this effect. That's so inexpensive we can make blinds with our own hands.

1. The width and length of the glass to which the blinds will be attached are measured.

The resulting holes in the wallpaper are reinforced with tape on the back, then we punch holes again. If these blinds are needed for a short time, you can not do this.

6. In the resulting clearance we wind a cord or tape, and then we straighten the blinds to determine the length of the rope. In this case, the upper end of the cord is fixed by a knot.

7. Glue double-sided tape across the entire width of the upper step of the curtain, at the same time additionally fixing the cord. This will be a window mount. On the lowest strip, lower left, a piece is glued a little less than half, so that you can decor the curtains.

8. The bottom is made out of a “peacock tail”. To do this, 5 lower folds are glued together, and then fastened with double-sided tape. In this case, the cord is displayed on the back side, the excess is cut off.

9. A cord with a single opening is put on the cord. To raise the curtains, it is necessary to pull up the latch, and to close the window with them, lower the fastener down the cord. The end of the cord or rope can be decorated with a large decorative bead.

There are several versions of such curtains. You can still make them on two parallel cords, just like real blinds. The procedure for their manufacture is similar. Only in this case will you need a latch for two holes.
